Bud and Lou are inadvertently mistaken for two renowned big-game hunters who were originally intended to lead the expedition. Despite their lack of wilderness survival skills and knowledge of African wildlife, they decide to go along with the journey for the sake of adventure and the potential treasure at stake.

As the story unfolds, Bud and Lou face various comedic challenges and encounters with the local wildlife, including wild animals and even a tribe of cannibals. Their humorous interactions with the other members of the expedition and the local inhabitants provide much of the film's comedic content. The film is known for its slapstick humor and the classic wit and timing of Abbott and Costello, which are characteristic of their comedy style (1949).
