The film follows the life and fortunes of the ambitious and cunning Becky Sharp (played by Miriam Hopkins). Born into a lower-class family, Becky is determined to rise in society and secure a position among the British aristocracy. She befriends Amelia Sedley (Frances Dee) at Miss Pinkerton's Academy, and the two women's lives become intertwined.
Becky uses her wit, charm, and manipulative skills to climb the social ladder. She marries Rawdon Crawley (Alan Mowbray), a handsome but impoverished man, which further complicates her relationships with others. As she navigates the complexities of high society, Becky's schemes and ambitions lead to both triumphs and setbacks (1935).
