Public Domain Movies | Bela Lugosi Meets a Brooklyn Gorilla

The story follows two nightclub performers, Duke Mitchell and Sammy Petrillo, who are a comedy duo reminiscent of Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. After their plane crashes on a remote island during a routine flight, they find themselves stranded in the jungle.

As they navigate the unfamiliar terrain, Duke and Sammy stumble upon a strange laboratory run by Dr. Zabor (played by horror icon Bela Lugosi). Dr. Zabor is conducting experiments involving a gorilla named Nabu, whom he has transformed into a human-like creature through a serum.

In typical comedic fashion, Duke and Sammy become entangled in Dr. Zabor's bizarre experiments and antics. Meanwhile, Duke falls for Nona, Dr. Zabor's beautiful assistant, further complicating the situation.

As the plot unfolds, there are various comedic misunderstandings, slapstick moments, and musical interludes. The film also features elements of horror, with Dr. Zabor's eerie laboratory and the presence of the transformed gorilla adding a spooky atmosphere.

Ultimately, the climax of the film sees Duke and Sammy attempting to escape the island while also trying to thwart Dr. Zabor's plans. In a chaotic finale, they confront Dr. Zabor and the gorilla, leading to a resolution that ties up the loose ends in a comedic fashion (1952).
