The story begins with Carol Delaney (played by Paulette Goddard), a wealthy widow who is mourning the death of her husband, Charles. However, Carol's grief is soon overshadowed by shock and disbelief when she learns that her husband was accused of embezzling $250,000 from his company before his death.
Determined to clear her husband's name and uncover the truth behind the embezzlement scheme, Carol enlists the help of a charming stranger named Peter Joshua (played by Kent Smith), who claims to be a friend of her late husband.
As Carol and Peter delve deeper into the mystery, they discover that Charles was involved in a complex conspiracy involving several of his former colleagues and acquaintances. Unsure of whom to trust, Carol and Peter must navigate a treacherous world of deception, double-crosses, and danger.
Along the way, Carol encounters a cast of colorful characters, including a suave diplomat named Carson Dyle (played by Riccardo Garrone), a mysterious woman named Sylvia (played by Sandra Milo), and a sinister figure known only as "the Kid" (played by Paul Hubschmid), each of whom may hold clues to the truth.
As Carol and Peter race against time to unravel the mystery and clear Charles's name, they find themselves caught in a deadly game of cat and mouse with their ruthless adversaries. With danger lurking around every corner, they must rely on their wits and resourcefulness to survive.
In a climactic showdown, the truth behind the embezzlement scheme is finally revealed, leading to a thrilling and suspenseful conclusion.
