The story begins with Carol Delaney (played by Paulette Goddard), a wealthy widow who is mourning the death of her husband, Charles. However, Carol's grief is soon overshadowed by shock and disbelief when she learns that her husband was accused of embezzling $250,000 from his company before his death.
Determined to clear her husband's name and uncover the truth behind the embezzlement scheme, Carol enlists the help of a charming stranger named Peter Joshua (played by Kent Smith), who claims to be a friend of her late husband.
