A British jazz pianist and music teacher named Marcus Daly (played by David Hemmings), who is living in Rome. One night, Marcus witnesses the brutal murder of a renowned psychic, Helga Ulmann (played by Macha Méril), in her apartment. He arrives at the scene just in time to see the killer fleeing the building.
Marcus becomes deeply disturbed by the murder and decides to investigate the crime on his own, believing he may have seen a crucial clue that the police have missed. He teams up with a reporter named Gianna (played by Daria Nicolodi) to unravel the mystery.
As Marcus and Gianna dig deeper into the case, they uncover a series of clues and encounters with potential suspects, all of whom may be connected to the killer's identity. The investigation leads them to a traumatic childhood event that took place in a remote house, and they believe the key to solving the mystery lies in this dark past.
Throughout the film, Marcus and Gianna face danger, encounter gruesome murders, and uncover unsettling secrets. The film builds tension and suspense, and it is known for its artistic and visually striking set pieces, as well as a haunting musical score by Goblin (1975).
