The story begins with Jimmy Gilpin (played by Wallace Ford), a down-on-his-luck young man who unexpectedly inherits a nut farm from his late uncle. Excited by the prospect of owning his own business, Jimmy sets out to inspect his new property and assess its potential for success.
Upon arriving at the nut farm, Jimmy discovers that it is in a state of disrepair and faces numerous challenges, including poor soil quality, outdated equipment, and a lack of funds. Undeterred by these obstacles, Jimmy is determined to turn the farm into a profitable enterprise and make a name for himself as a successful businessman.
As Jimmy begins to make improvements to the farm and implement new ideas, he encounters a colorful cast of characters who inhabit the surrounding area. These include the eccentric Professor Julius K. Olsen (played by Charles Butterworth), an inventor who dreams of creating a machine that can crack nuts; the flirtatious Miss Daisy Layton (played by Lucille Lund), who works as a secretary for a local businessman; and the conniving Mr. Jonathan Peabody (played by Matt McHugh), who has his eye on the nut farm and will stop at nothing to acquire it.
As Jimmy's efforts to revitalize the nut farm begin to show signs of success, he finds himself embroiled in a series of comedic misadventures and misunderstandings. From dealing with malfunctioning machinery to fending off unwanted suitors, Jimmy must overcome numerous obstacles in order to achieve his goal of turning the nut farm into a thriving business.
In the end, Jimmy's hard work and determination pay off, and he succeeds in transforming the nut farm into a profitable enterprise. Along the way, he learns valuable lessons about perseverance, friendship, and the importance of following one's dreams (1935).
