The film follows the story of a young girl named Ann Dixon (played by Helen Foster). Ann is a teenager who comes from a seemingly respectable, middle-class family. However, she falls under the influence of a rebellious friend, Bee (played by Nell O'Day), who introduces her to a wilder lifestyle.
Ann and Bee begin to experiment with drugs, alcohol, and engage in risky behavior. This leads to Ann's unplanned pregnancy, and she is subsequently expelled from school. Faced with the social consequences of her actions, Ann's life takes a downward spiral.
In desperation, Ann seeks an abortion, which, in the context of the time, was a highly controversial and taboo subject. The film portrays the consequences of Ann's decisions and the impact on her life as she descends into a world of crime and degradation (1934).
