Marcy Lewis (played by Jane Wyman) is a flight attendant for American Airlines who frequently travels between New York City and Los Angeles. She has aspirations of becoming a stewardess, a position that is highly coveted by women at the time.

During her travels, Marcy encounters three different men, all coincidentally named Mike. The first Mike is Mike Lawrence (played by Van Johnson), a handsome and charming co-pilot. Marcy is immediately drawn to Mike Lawrence, and they begin a romantic relationship.

The second Mike is Mike Tracy (played by Barry Sullivan), a successful businessman who becomes infatuated with Marcy after meeting her during a flight. Despite Marcy's initial reluctance, she finds herself falling for Mike Tracy as well.

The third Mike is Mike Jamison (played by Howard Keel), a rugged and adventurous pilot who captures Marcy's heart with his dashing demeanor and adventurous spirit.
