The story begins with Joe Smith (played by Chester Lauck), a mild-mannered office worker who receives a letter from his doctor informing him that he has a rare and incurable disease and only two weeks left to live. Shocked and devastated by the news, Joe decides to quit his job and live life to the fullest during his remaining time.

Believing that he has nothing to lose, Joe embarks on a series of adventures and misadventures, determined to make the most of his two weeks left to live. He spends his time indulging in his favorite activities, pursuing his dreams, and seeking out new experiences.

Along the way, Joe encounters a colorful cast of characters, including his eccentric landlord, his nosy neighbors, and a beautiful young woman named Mary (played by Una Merkel), who captures his heart. Despite his dire prognosis, Joe finds joy and meaning in the simple pleasures of life and forms deep connections with those around him.
