The film begins with a young woman named Leslie Hollander, who is sexually assaulted by a vampire named Caleb Croft (played by Michael Pataki) during a cemetery visit. This assault results in Leslie becoming pregnant with Caleb's child.
Leslie gives birth to a son, who grows up to be named James Eastman (played by William Smith). James becomes aware of his unusual parentage and learns that he has inherited certain vampiric traits from his father, including a thirst for blood.
James becomes a vampire hunter, driven by a desire for vengeance against his vampire father. He forms an alliance with Professor Lockwood (played by Eric Mason) to track down and eliminate Caleb Croft, who has been causing a series of murders in the city.
The film follows James and Professor Lockwood as they hunt down Caleb Croft. They confront the vampire and engage in a climactic battle to destroy him (1972).
